On why I admire himThere are four main reasons. For one, it's his determination to make his big dream come true. His big dream is to establish himself as an international movie star, and for this he had to go against his parents' wish and left Japan for America, with little or no knowledge of English. An act that can be considered quite bold, since most people learn English for years to feel sufficiently confident to interact with native English speakers in any English-speaking country.
Secondly, it's the way he made his debut. Most Asian stars have already had several hits (be it movies or singles) under their belts in their homelands before expanding their careers abroad (in his case, it's USA), but not Shin. You can read on
the bio page or simply any Shin bio that his first work took place in the play of Shakespeare's Coriolanus at The Knighsbridge Theatre, a year after his arrival in USA. And then two more works before the stardom came with The Last Samurai.
Third reason is the way he presents himself. For me, it's just outstanding how he doesn't appear like a typical Asian star, with rebonded and dyed hair and 'riches to rags' clothes. You can see for yourself in
the gallery or any Shin gallery all over the world wide web that he dresses in a simple way, with his hair in its natural color. I'm just sick and tired of Asian stars with colorful, otherworldly straight hair and torn, washed-up jeans!
Last reason, the most cliche of all, is his cuteness! I bet you all have guessed this one! What girl doesn't melt at a wide grin showing off perfect pearly whites, hair blown by the wind, and a body perfectly built by years of training in gymnastics, swimming, and myriad sorts of martial arts? Lest the girl concerned is homosexual. And I'm not.
In conclusion, I admire him because of his protuberant differences, as differences always make one stand out in crowds. And with this admiration, I'm looking forward to his next movies, and wishing him a successful career ahead.
